CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Weâre screwed.
Making dresses was one thing, but a suit? That was a whole other beast. There was a certain fluidity to the process of creating a dress. I would visualize different styles and ideas all the time, and whenever I did, I would easily be able to put them to paper, creating a full sketch of what I wanted it to look and feel like.
Iâd already thrown out several leaves of paper in trying to figure out the Princeâs suit. I wanted to put him in something that would make him look strong, and regal; something that would highlight his best features and compliment the things about him thatâat least to meâwere unique.
From his hair, to his antlers, to his canines, there were many things about Prince Cillian you just didnât find on human men, and they needed to be taken into consideration. If I put him in something grey to compliment his eyes, would it go with his black hair? His white antlers? I wanted a spot of blue, and I also wanted to add the magic element.
Ironically, the creative magic that made me the seamstress I was today, was missing.
Something just wasnât connecting, I wasnât able to focus, and I had a feeling the culprits were equal parts tiredness and a desire to physically be in the Princeâs presence. After throwing out the fourth leaf of paper, I took the dress I would be wearing out of the closet and picked at it, working on this and that. I wasnât ready to reveal it just yet, though, so when Mira came knocking on my door, I put the dress back in the closet.
âHow is it coming?â she asked.
âNot good,â I said. âIâm stuck.â
Miraâs eyes widened with alarm. âYouâve been here for hours, and youâve done nothing?â
âLook, donât attack the process, okay? I know just how far behind I am. I donât need you reminding me.â
She shook her head. âThis is already a disaster.â
âSheâs been trying her best,â Gullie said, floating out from behind my hair, âItâs not her fault sheâs got mush for brains right now.â
âI wouldnât say I have mush for brains,â I said.
âThis is what Mareen and those bitches wanted. They wanted you to be too tired to focus today, and itâs working. I only wish there was something I could do.â
âDonât worry about it, Gull. Iâll be okay.â
âYouâll have to be okay a lot faster than this,â Mira said, âAnyway, Iâm here to tell you that the Prince is ready to see you.â
âThe Prince⦠now?â Shit. I had hoped to have something to show him by now. A sketch, a concept. I had nothing but empty hands. âOkay⦠I can do this. Where is he?â
âHeâs waiting for you in the palace. Iâll take you to him.â
âGull?â I asked, âThink you can tattoo yourself again, or do you need to rest?â
âI had some food,â she said, âIâm good to go.â
âShe had best attach herself to your hand again,â Mira said, âSo the Prince doesnât ask questions.
